About Border Medical Oncology & Haematology.
Cancer Care Specialists in Albury Wodonga.
Border Medical Oncology and Haematology (BMOH) is recognised as a leading regional centre for excellence in cancer care. We are a key partner of the Hume Regional Integrated Cancer Service - East Hume (Border Clinical Cancer Network). Via this network we can provide comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer care and access to various support services.
Doctors Kerrie Clarke, Richard Eek, Christopher Steer, Anish Puliyayil and Craig Underhill consult at BMOH, a practice that is recognised as one of the leading regional oncology services in Australia, located within the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer and Wellness Centre (AWRCC).
Haematology services are developing further with the recruitment of a second haematologist in progress. BMOH supervises two Advanced Trainees in medical oncology and one in Haematology and is a teaching site for the UNSW Rural Medical School Albury Campus. Christopher Steer (Associate Professor) and Craig Underhill (Conjoint Associate Professor) recently gained UNSW academic promotions in recognition of their contribution to education and research.
For more than 20 years the BMOH partners have worked together diligently to provide 24/7 cover to the people of Albury Wodonga and our outreach services in Wangaratta and Deniliquin.
The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre is a “One Stop Shop” with inpatient and outpatient services, radiation oncology, support services and Wellness Centre available. This enhances the provision of multidisciplinary team-based care.
The BMO research unit is an award-winning organisation offering a range of clinical trials to our patients, normally only available in capital cities. It leads a network of clinical trials units across regional Victoria.
Recently the unit received $18.5 million in MRFF funding over 5 years to enable this network of 8 sites to improve access to clinical trials in regional Australia. The trials unit has recently become the first regional site for the MoST programme, enabling comprehensive genomic testing of tumours for our patients.
AWRCC is an affiliate site of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, enabling access to new training and education programmes for the staff, cutting edge clinical trials and research programmes of new models of care (such as cardio-oncology) for our patients.
Improving the care of older adults with cancer is an ongoing focus enabled via collaborations with the Latrobe University John Richards Institute of Rural Ageing, Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) and Hume Regional Integrated Cancer Service (RICS).
